Yes, sometimes the translations are completely rubbish. And sometimes they're not, but watching/reading the original is always so much better (believe me, there are some Germans who will tell you that every translation sucks and that you should only read/watch the original version). I've even seen people tell others to read the English version despite the fact that these people would have only been able to read the book with a dictionary and much time on their hands. Which most people won't do just for fun.

Not to mention the fact that spoilerphobes could never be part of English fandom unless they watched/read the English source because it often takes years until something is aired/published in Germany as well (if it is at all).

I know it's a problem for some people as well to watch something in one language and to write a fanfic in the other. I don't usually have much of a problem with that as long as I can research the German terms for canon specific words like "Extendable Ears" or if there's no translation my readers are familiar with and I can be creative.

(It's nice to hear native English speakers here as well, I think you're the second who commented.)
