Actually some shows only got popular in Germany because of the dubbing. The Persuaders! for example, and I think the same person was responsible for Hogan's Heroes and M*A*S*H as well. I prefer subtitles myself, but sometimes I just can't stand the original voices/accents/dialoge (I mentioned Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves above). DVDs really are a blessing anyway, because it often leaves us a choice.
And I'm really afraid of trying to discuss racism in Germany in detail because I've been dogpiled on once and since then, I'm really afraid of talking about the topic out in the open. (Why yes, I'm paranoid. I'm not taking my meds at the moment, so ...)
