Yeah, those comments confused me as well. There isn't really much of a LJ audience for my stories and I don't post to LJ anyway, so I've always used archives and hit counters have been a part of my archive experience since 2004. Discussions about why people click on something but don't read have been around since then as well. I'm surprised that this was news to anybody.
