I'm generally more interested in modern history. Especially the 1920s and the early Meiji years were a fascinating time. The book that I read for my book report was about the labor movement in Japan and incredibly interesting.

I only read one book about mythology, so far (it was about what historical background and political maneuvering the Kojiki and the Nihon Shoki had) and I understand why you find the topic fascinating.
