I think it depends on how you define "background pairing". Some of the stories only had pairings in the background, I admit, but when the setting is the wedding of Bilbo and Thorin it's kind of hard to ignore, same with the random kiss between Fili and Kili. I have a higher tolerance for canon pairings in gen stories, but not for non-canon.
