I've always been someone where if I love the canon ships, I've been content with canon. Fan fic usually only comes into play when I ship something that isn't canon and I want to explore it. My small store of Gen fic has been written for Forever and other such familial relationships.
One of the interesting things about getting into Asian dramas for me is that I find myself often loving the canon relationships *and* my own non-canon ones. In Goblin, I love all the relationships exactly as they are... but I also have some interest in Kim Shin/Wang Yeo though I haven't pursued it much/actually written anything for it. That's about to change only because one of my mates requested it for my 12 Days of Christmas offer.
The number of canons I love far outnumbers the number of canons for which I have ships, even canon ones, and that's certainly true of the Kdramas I've watched.
