My feelings are a lot more positive than most people when it comes to the show (not a surprise, considering how much I've written for it), but I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about the look of it, apart from people with ridiculous expectations for TV CGI. I really loved the lore as well, especially since it was something fresh and different for once, rather than yet another adaptation.
