So, like seemingly everyone around here, it seems I had some health trouble at the beginning of the year. I don’t want to go into details, but doctors have assured me I’m fine because my symptoms magically disappear whenever a test is done. I’ve got more tests coming up, but that might be equally useless, because I’ve had these same weird symptoms for the past four years, for about a month or two, starting from mid-to-late January to mid-February. It was particularly bad this year, and I suspect it’s somehow related to the cold weather.
And of course, two weeks into that, added stress: after a short three-day holiday, I got back to work to the news that the senior colleague with a focus on backend and systems who kind of kept everything running quit the company with just one month left to divvy up his responsibilities. There’s three other developers: one who can’t take over a lot of stuff for Reasons, one who only works part-time, and me: a junior with a year of combined active developer experience, mostly doing user facing stuff like apps or web frontend.
So, that’s how I ended up sitting in meetings way out of my pay-grade and trying to get into backend dev, and maybe even having to deal with complicated C code soon. I have no idea what I’m doing, guys. The cryptic variable names don’t help.
In more positive news: I completely missed that there were new seasons of School Spirits until midway through the third season. I recced it two years ago and I really enjoyed seasons two and three as well and I so hope there’s going to be a fourth.
I also rewatched some comfort series due to above-mentioned stuff. Among them My Lady Jane, which I don’t think I’ve talked about before. It’s awesome. Just pure, unadulterated fun. Everyone should watch it, even though it got cancelled after one season. That season is so worth it: Jane’s playboy husband is a horse, her brother-in-law is a himbo with a thing for scheming MILFs (that MILF being Jane’s mom AKA Anna Chancellor), Dominic Cooper seems to be having the time of his life playing a scheming vizier-type, Princess Mary is enjoyably unhinged, and King Edward gets a cat boyfriend. Also: the narrator rocks.
I also really enjoyed the fourth season of Bridgerton. Not as much as the second, mostly because I still think Benedict is incredibly bland and boring, but Sophie was soooo good. Perfection, really. And Katie Leung should play scenery-chewing villains for the next ten years, she’s such a pleasure to watch.
