rodo: chuck on a roof in winter (Default)
Yesterday I visited [insanejournal.com profile] sevilemar in her new flat to eat free chocolate cake and drink the rest of the alcoholic beverages left over from the night before. And then I noticed a few books in her bookshelves I wanted to buy anyway, so I borrowed them.

The first is Notes from a Big Country by Bill Bryson, which I started reading about five years ago when my brother borrowed the German translation. It's such a great book and even better than Notes From A Small Island and Neither Here Nor There for one simple reason: He isn't talking about architecture, which is good because it makes parts of his other books incredibly boring. My only problem are the cultural references only middle-aged Americans understand.

The Second one is Intelligencer. I don't know much about this one, but it's not too thick and the plot sounds interesting.
