rodo: chuck on a roof in winter (Default)
Did anybody else ever have a problem with flour moths?

I mean, when I still lived back home with my mum we got rid of them by simply throwing away everything they lived in (which was pretty much half of the things my mum kept in the cupboard) and they were gone.

Now, this summer I moved, and the girl that lived in my room before left most of her groceries here. It took my roommate and me quite a while to figure out where she put what and what belonged to whom. There's still some of her stuff around somewhere, I think, but nothing that might decide to crawl away when left alone.

First we discovered the source of the endless supply of fruit flies (her fruit basket) and for a while, everything was okay. And then some flour moths appeared. The source were her cereals, which she left open, so we threw them away, and everything was okay again. At least until we decided to make sushi this weekend. I bought everything, but of course no rice because I still had about a kilo left. Or so I thought. But flour moths apparently do like rice a lot, and are able to gnaw little wholes in the plastic packing.

Hopefully that will be the last of it. I had to throw away the rice, the flour, the sugar and the sesame, which means I don't really have much left to eat. But maybe I can buy some things tomorrow, it's two weeks until Christmas after all, and that means at least some shops are open on a Sunday.
