Fall TV Opinions Take 2
2022-10-25 08:30 pmAndor: Still loving it! It’s kind of dark, tonally, but that might be part of what I like about it. I like it when Star Wars is optimistic, but there’s a reason Rogue One is my favourite, and that reason is probably that everyone dies at the end (you might call that a spoiler, I call it a selling point; they’re all wonderful deaths). And even through the darkness and kafkaesque system, many of the characters in Andor are still optimistic in their outlook for the future, which I like. Oh, and the Empire characters are also still interesting, even if I’m probably the only one who likes Syril’s mom.
Babylon Berlin: A new season is upon us, and so far, it’s pretty good. I don’t blame people who stopped watching because of the actor, but I can still divorce him from his character – although that scene at the beginning did pack a punch. He has reasons. Anyway, the plot seems really good, so far, and I’m enjoying a lot of the side plots and relationships, like Katelbach and Elisabeth Behnke, and the way the characters are torn between surviving and compromising who they are in the face of the recession.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Honestly, the last episode was the weakest part of the show so far (and it wasn't that strong to begin with). The Sauron reveal was kind of eh for me (although the actor’s performance became about twice as good during it), but I really missed Arondir and Bronwyn. And Adar. The whole ring thing was just too condensed and heavy-handed, in my opinion, and I’m kind of disappointed by the dwarf storyline overall, even if the moments with Durin and Elrond were great. Also, Poppy should have tagged along. But on the whole, I actually enjoyed the series quite a bit.
As for House of the Dragon, I’m watching with my mother, and we had to pause due to a minor medical emergency, and now she’s on holiday (and naturally, her room mate at the hotel got Covid, so who knows if she’ll be back on time).
