Hmm, ff.de does have 44 BSG stories, and I do watch the series occasionally. You definitely would have a bigger audience than the one fan who writes fanfic about old Dustin Hoffman films ;-)
I guess I don't regard fandom as something that happens upon me. It's something I make myself. If I miss something, I create it.
That's my approach too (I do write meta in German as well), but one person can only do so much. I'd love to know how you manage not to split yourself in two like I am.
(it turned out to be full of homophobes, so I won't link it)
Urgh. Not fun (but I'm curious anyway). What you describe also seems to be a fandom experience colored by personal websites and private boards, which I guess is hard to get into if you are shy and don't know any of the people involved. That's something I don't know much at all, in both English and German fandom. LJ is quite open (and DW too, it's not that hard to get an invite), and there's a lot of linking going on. Same with open forums like those on Animexx and ff.de. I think I prefer the relative openness and interconnectivity, which is why I never really got active on the more private websites.
