after all, how often do you see a German show subbed or dubbed in English, fan or otherwise (Verbotenen Liebe excepting)?
I mentioned Alles Was Zählt (another gay soap opera) above and there seems to be an Australian TV channel that airs subbed German shows. I suspect the ratio is even worse for Chinese media. I only know of a couple of subbed C-Dramas.
Besides the difficulty in switching between the norms, simply keeping up with both communities is not an easy task either, especially when fandom migration in manga/anime can be so fast.
I don't know, I've been pretty resistant when it comes to that. Which is why I actually wrote German fanfic about canons that weren't translated yet, and since most popular American shows are aired here sooner or later, I can actually count on people at least having heard of what I'm talking about.
