Yup, I actually met the Dustin Hoffman fan IRL a week ago and she keeps writing the stories just because. Readership isn't everything to her.
Anyway. Sorry for the rant.
Don't worry. Even my mother is more tactful than that and she's a very religious 61-year-old.
English fandom is very self-concious about being a female dominated space and there's lots of thoughts about feminism and LGBT rights. It's getting better in the parts of German fandom that I'm in, but there are still a lot of male writers who like to mansplain, for example.
