But what about fandoms that have German characters or might possibly take place in Germany? (From Eroica With Love, for example.) And then there's source material that was originally written in German (Karl May, Cornelia Funke, just like there are German language TV shows and films - I actually once stumbled upon an Australian fan of the TV series Kommissar Rex) and TV shows or films that only became popular because of the idiosyncratic dub (Die Zwei).
I also think that a lot of people would like to just try it. Just because. I doubt many people write for rare pairing challenges or Yuletide because they want to do something that they'd do anyway.
