Asking things is totally fine, especially when you tried and failed to find something yourself. Or if it's small things. [livejournal.com profile] little_details and the like are great.

Hey, would you all explain to me every grammatical term ever used to describe German grammar and German grammar itself, plz? I'm studying the subject in university and don't understand a thing! (Question paraphrased ;)

That? Not so much. I am one of the few people who actually read a grammar (all 628 pages), and that was just one. These person probably doesn't even realise that there are different grammars and different grammatical terms and that it's virtually impossible to have ten specialists agree on something "simple" like the definition of "sentence".

And some people are just so incredibly dumb when asking. A few years on [livejournal.com profile] little_details have taught me that. And then I ran into a few people lately ... One person was asking about how long a person can spend in prison at maximum, prison rules what prisons look like, how to escape etc. She received tons of answers before I finally asked her to specify. About 1950 in Great Britain. Of course that meant nobody had a clue.
