Well, I really haven't been feeling all that well lately. I still haven't recovered from the warning discussion for one. That's why I haven't been particularly active lately. That and I was busy reading the Temeraire series. I loved the first three books, but the last two ... it's not that they're bad (they're not), I just have a feeling I know where the series is going and that I won't like it one bit. Reading isn't that much fun if you're waiting for the books to jump the shark.

A lot of people on my flist already posted about the new season of Torchwood. I read your posts, I just didn't answer because I would have had to repeat myself over and over again. So I'll write about it here: I love the new season so far. The alien threat is creepy, at least in my opinion, which is great, because I generally don't think monsters are creepy. I like that Jack and Ianto were given a family. And I absolutely adore Rhys. Most action girls have SOs who either are kick-ass themselves or who have a problem with not being as kick-ass as the action girl. Rhys is neither. And it works! I'm not sure what to make of Jack's past and his relationship with Ianto just yet. Oh, and there seems to be a Torchwood Three version of Rule 34: Everything is a sex toy. No exceptions.

☞ To Americans who discuss racism in Germany: Germany is not the US. Stop applying your standards, please? Or at least do a bit of research.

☞ Watching Smallville feels like time travel. The early seasons, at least. I feel like I'm back in 11th grade. I suppose I would feel the same if I watched Buffy, but I don't have this problem with other series.

☞ I am going to write that meta post about my thoughts on Stargate some day. Hopefully. It's harder than it sounds.

What did I miss?

I loved the first three books, but the last two ...

Huh. I loved the first one but four and five are my favorites, especially five.

Yes, thank you! I don't know what you're referring to specifically, but it burns me up every time I see American standards being used universally. They don't even apply in Canada and we're neighbours!

Yeah, it's awfully easy to get confused, seeing as our black (no, not African American) population is made up of primarily upper middle-class French-speaking professionals. Just like it is in the U.S. And oh, we missed that whole slavery/civil war kerfluffle. I can see how Americans might not notice the differences. ;)

But you're right, culturally it is more similar, although there are so many subtle differences. Americans just choose to ignore those more than any other nation does, I think.

So far I like books 1 and 5 of the Temeraire series the best - book 5 actually save it in a lot of ways. There are still things I don't care for, but it's been that way the whole time - so I'm still getting book 6 as soon as I can lay hands on it :o)

Looking forward (maybe) to your Stargate post!

I'm still warming to Tharkay :o)

Yeah, that's what I thought, so maybe it isn't for me - I'm not deeply invested, but I do enjoy just enjoying it when it works for me, and I don't really need my squee harshed at this point.

Torchwood: MFY! :D

(I seem to have gotten rid of my TW icon when I moved them over. Have SJS instead. At least as awesome.)

Torchwood has been great so far. I wish series one and two had been so structures and contained.

XD
