I'm really, really dumb.

So, my sleep rhythm is out of whack again. This means that I sleep more or less the whole day. I was particularly tired today, so I slept during the opening hours of every shop. No biggie, I thought, after all I still have enough food for the night, I can go in the morning.

No. I can't. Tomorrow is a holiday where I live (and hardly anywhere else), and all the shops are closed, except for the ones at the station. Which means I'll have to stay up for at least six hours longer and fight my way to the shops because everyone else who forgot to buy something will be there too. People always act as if it's the apocalypse on those days. Then I have to carry all the stuff home again. And it's not as if I can just wait a day, because shops are closed on Sundays too.

The German Ladenschlussgesetz is a pain. Happy Reformation Day to me.

ETA 09.10.31: Turns out every shop but the grocery shops is open there. *sigh* Lets hope the Döner shop is open most of the day tomorrow.

Today's the first time that I'm happy Reformationstag isn't a holiday here. Usually I feel cheated because the Catholics get a holiday tomorrow and we don't get anything.

I'd shop for you if I could...

I'm generally really good at remembering holidays, but this year I'm very scatterbrained. I almost forgot October 3rd as well. My mother barely managed to remind me. Now I only have to remember Buß- und Bettag, which is always a bit tricky because it moves around.

And I bet you feeling cheated is nothing compared to the Catholics who end up in other parts of Germany, make big plans for Allerheiligen and then find out that it isn't a holiday there.

I forgot October 3rd as well. And of course we don't have Buß- und Bettag anymore...

I'm Protestant but grew up in NRW, and there's lots of parties I missed after I moved away because of Fronleichnam. Abi-Parties always are the day before Fronleichnam at home. *grumble*

Actually it was the best of two worlds: lots of holidays, but no church because they weren't my holidays. *g*

I'm an atheist, so I never really get any religious holidays myself, even though I would love to have them.

Awww, it happens. I tend to forget these things all the time. But I do like that we still have a Ladenschutzgesetz because otherwise some people wouldn't know what a weekend is.

I just think it's a bit strict sometimes. In part because I'm a night owl and I would love to start work late and work in the evening/the night instead, should I ever have a job. I'm also terrible at remembering what the opening hours for different shops are.
