2009-12-09 12:44 am☞ My Yuletide beta (I had to write to a second person, who actually answered) promised me she would be done by Monday or Tuesday, so I am now glancing anxiously at the mail symbol of my browser every few minutes while I wait for the weekly party downstairs to quiet down a bit. I'm really nervous because I still have to look for a Britpicker and won't be in LE for a few days. My mother and I are visiting the relative of a relative of a relative in Göttingen for a few days and I don't think my mother will book a hotel with internet access.
☞ In other news: Chuck ate my brain. I only watched it because I was a bit bored, it stared Adam Baldwin and because I caught an episode on TV a while ago. I love it. Chuck is adorable and Casey is like Jayne only more clever; I like Sarah and Ellie and Morgan and Captain Awesome. Also: Awesome likes to run around half naked. Overall, the show is sweet and funny, even though it hits my embarrassment squick sometimes.
☞ I actually found a decent story on ff.de. Weird things do happen. Half of the stories that I have to look at as an OP are Mary Sue stories or stories with canon characters as Sues, though. No idea why people over there think the fandoms are overrun by slash. Do het fans have a persecution complex? Is everything about 15% slash more than acceptable?

Date: 2009-12-09 01:35 am (UTC)I thinkit's because many (really young) writers start out with het and some then turn onto slash? so they might have a little more experience to begin with. or something. but really, there's a loooot of crappy het on ff.de.
I'd totally offer you my internet, but that's still an hour ont the train from GÖ. I'm not sure if the university library card from gö I have allows you internet access as well, but i could look that up, and you could use that, if you wanted to. though an internet cafe might be easier.
[I just dropped out of yuletide a couple hours ago. I feel kind of bad about it, but I'm really not in the mood for happy end het fic right now. :(]

Date: 2009-12-09 01:51 am (UTC)I mostly use recs as well, but there aren't that many places for German recs, are there?
I guess I'll just have to live without the internet for a while. Most options just don't work with my anxiety issues at the moment. I can only hope I'll get through the train ride without a breakdown.

I understand that. I'm really glad I got a more or less easy assignment, and one that doesn't specify the general tone of the fic or even characters or pairings. I'm kind of afraid I'll have to drop out as well, but that I can't because my beta doesn't write to me in time. I just know that it's too late for a total rewrite for me.

Date: 2009-12-09 02:00 am (UTC)nah, not a lot of places for recs in german fic. but i read english 99%, so that's okay...
ah, right. then crowded liraries are pretty much out of the question. that sucks. :(
I signed up wof uploading stuff to ao3 for people who can't, so if that happens, just send it to me, i could do the rest. :)

Date: 2009-12-09 12:50 pm (UTC)I probably could have managed something, but neither I nor my recepient would have been happy with that, i think.
Yeah, that wouldn't have been fun. And since Yuletide should be about the fun (at least in theory), it's probably good that you didn't force yourself to do something that wouldn't have worked out properly anyway.

It does indeed suck. I just can't be afraid of normal things like going home alone at night, terrorism, bees, bacteria, the swine flu, etc. I have to be afraid of people and filling out forms.
