rodo: angry nuns are angry (angry nuns)
This post was brought to you by the meta discussion about the [community profile] hc_bingo, but it isn’t about that; my position on it is that I prefer hurt without the comfort (otherwise known as whump) for a reason. The problem isn’t really new either.

This post is about Don’t Like, Don’t Read. You’ve all heard it, I’ve already talked about it in passing and this time it looked like this:
“You are ALWAYS free to NOT READ MY FICS. For that matter, if the subject matter bothers you then PLEASE DO NOT READ THEM. You will be happier, I will be happier, everything will be much better. Really. Just don't read them.” [personal profile] darthneko in Oh, is it THAT time again?

See, there’s just this teeny tiny problem with Don’t Like, Don’t Read: most of the time, it doesn’t actually apply. )

☞ Before I forget it a fourth time: Many thanks to the anonymous person who gifted me with a paid DW account. I am incredibly grateful that I can edit comments again. I always manage to make a mistake, even if the damn thing is only three words long. Thank you!

☞ The Archive Roadmap needs to die a slow and painful death. It is evil, pure and utter evil. Betaing the translation was rather enlightening, though. The English language sucks. If you want to explain something very precisely, it just isn't the best option. German, on the other hand, is a rather precise language. Which leads to an insane amount of problems when translating. Gender is just one of those problems.

☞ Sometimes, the German fandom is really slow at picking things up. It took the Diana Gabaldon controversy about two weeks to reach ff.de. The strange part: A significant amount of fanwriters there a) want to be published some day and b) intend to be anti-fanfic when they are. I really, really don't get that attitude.

Reading material in case you need something to be angry at. It's a [livejournal.com profile] ffrantsrants post about something more or less unimportant, but for some reason, people think using Hitler icons is A OK, even after being told that mockery and Hitler only go together when Hitler is the one being mocked. I'm desensitized and rather apathetic towards "grammar nazi", but I fully understand why it's NOT FUNNY. Giving "feminazi" as another example why it's okay to use "nazi" this way? NOT FUNNY EITHER!

And now something NOTFUNNY that's actually funny.

☞ I really need a Peter Fox album. His music is great, why didn't I buy one years ago?

☞ I finally have a new muse! Or so it seems. I wrote a rough draft for a Supernatural ficlet based on the latest prompt at [community profile] dailyprompt. It's neither long nor great, but it's a whole and not just a random scene. Maybe I could even post it, once I've revised it.

☞ A sentence that should be erased from every language ever: "It's just X" Seriously, I can't hear it anymore. Yes, Torchwood is just a TV show, Bayern München is just a football club. Your boyfriend is just a boyfriend, your job is just a job, this exam is just an exam. And that's just a spider! Gee, thanks, I totally didn't notice! In the grand scheme of things, every thing is "just" a thing. Telling somebody to care less because "it's just …" is totally ridiculous because when has that ever worked? Not to mention that nobody has the right to tell someone else what is worth caring about. And why would you want someone not to care anyway? The world doesn't become a better place for anyone if you approach it with "just"s all the time. Everything in my life is just "just" and I care anyway. Even about stupid fictional characters and the alphabetical order on my shelf.*

* This rant was brought to you by a person who is depressed and phobic (and thus hears this at least once a week). And no, it never helps even the tiniest bit.
