Challenge #12 Tell Us about a Personal Win.

Managed to keep a hoglet alive – at least so far (well, she’s not a hoglet any longer). As I wrote when I found it, people who knew what they were talking about didn’t give her the best chances. She was really small when we found her in the garden, walking around during the day and not even attempting to roll up properly when I picked her up. She was also sneezy for a while, a bit dehydrated and riddled with fleas and ticks (all wild hedgehogs are). So, yeah, not the best chances. And we had no idea what we were doing, but all the spots were filled already (don’t use robot lawnmowers if you live in a place with hedgehogs), so the alternatives weren’t that great either.

But she’s currently hibernating when it’s cold enough, waking up for a bit of a snack every now and then. She’s at a good weight, and we haven’t had health scares since early December.

Yeah, I kind of forgot to post update when there were no more pictures to take (because she was getting ready for her extensive nap), didn't I?

I'm glad she's hanging in and improving. I can't imagine how much work it is (we don't have wild ones where I am) and thank you for helping her. That's a definite win

She's quite a bit of work, actually! Hedgehogs - when confined to rather small spaces - can be quite messy, so you need to clean a lot.

(But she's worth it!)

I'm not too surprised by this. I've only met ones friends have gotten from breeders

Yeah, I'm pretty glad it's illegal to keep them as pets here. There's only an exception for hedgehogs in need, and only until they're ready to be released. They do not make good pets, even if they're super cute.

That makes sense. I'm honestly not that big of a fan of the 'exotic' pets

Yeah. I got to see her yesterday for the first time in months, and she's grown so big. She used to fit into one of my hands, and now she's a giant ball of spikes.

She is! Not a hoglet any longer, but a pretty large, fully-grown hedgehog.
